What It Is

The Palace of Saheb Ettabaâ is a 19th-century residence in the northern Medina of Tunis. Built for a prominent Husainid minister, it offers a look at historic domestic architecture, featuring traditional stonework, arched porticos, and decorative tilework in a residential district.

Getting There

From central Tunis near Bab Bhar, walk north through the Medina for roughly 20 minutes. Alternatively, take a 10-minute taxi ride to Place Halfaouine, then walk two minutes into the alleyways.

Time to Allow

Budget 30 to 45 minutes to view the building and its immediate courtyard area.

When to Go

Go during the morning or early afternoon for good natural light in the narrow lanes. Spring and autumn offer comfortable temperatures for walking. The neighborhood has regular local foot traffic, but the building itself rarely sees large crowds.
