Overview

The Monument of Choir is an ancient stele from the Turkic era, preserved as the oldest known inscription in the Old Turkic script. It provides a direct look into the writing systems and history of early nomadic empires in the region.

Getting There

Located in central Ulaanbaatar, the site is a 5- to 10-minute walk from the main city centre. Visitors travelling from Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN) can reach central Ulaanbaatar by taxi or airport shuttle.

Time to Allow

Plan for 20 to 30 minutes to inspect the stone carvings and read the historic script.

When to Go

Visit during daylight hours for clear visibility of the inscriptions. Summer and early autumn provide the most pleasant weather for walking around the city. The site does not typically become crowded, allowing for a quiet visit.
