Għallis Tower
Għallis Tower
Għallis Tower is a 17th-century watchtower located in the Salina area of Naxxar. Built in 1658 as part of the De Redin tower series, it served as a coastal lookout to warn the island of approaching ships. Visitors go here to see a well-preserved example of Malta's military architecture and to view the surrounding landscape from the tower's vicinity.
Getting There
The tower is located outside the center of Valletta. The most efficient way to reach it is by rental car or taxi, which typically takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. Public buses serve the Naxxar and Salina areas, though additional walking is required from the nearest stop.
Visit Duration
Because of its small size, allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes to view the structure and the immediate surroundings.
When to Visit
The site is outdoors and exposed to the elements. Visiting during the spring or autumn avoids the peak summer heat. Early morning or late afternoon is recommended for better lighting and cooler temperatures. This location does not typically experience the heavy crowds found in the center of Valletta.
