Iglesia Luterana, Valparaíso

Iglesia Luterana

Located on Cerro Concepción, this Lutheran church was built in 1898. It is historically significant as the first Protestant church in South America to feature a bell tower. Visitors typically stop here to view its architecture and its position within Valparaíso's UNESCO World Heritage district while exploring the hillside streets.

Getting There

The church is situated on the hills above the city center. The most direct way to reach the area is by taking the Ascensor Concepción (0.2km away), a traditional funicular that transports passengers from the flat part of the city up to the hill. The trip from the center takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes depending on the mode of transport.

Visit Duration

Since the site is a relatively small architectural landmark, allow 20 to 30 minutes to view the exterior and the immediate surroundings.

When to Visit

The church is accessible throughout the year. To avoid the largest crowds of tourists, visit during weekday mornings. The hillside streets can become busy during weekends and peak summer months.
