Polanco Lift
Polanco Lift
The Polanco Lift is a funicular that connects Simpson Street with Cerro Polanco. Unlike the other inclined funiculars in Valparaíso, this one operates as a vertical elevator. Travelers visit this site to experience its unique mechanical design and to access the upper residential areas of the hill.
Getting There
The lift is located in the coastal area of Valparaíso. From the city center, you can reach it via a short taxi ride or by using the local public transport network. The trip typically takes about 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic conditions.
Time Allotment
Since the primary purpose of the visit is the ride itself and the view from the top, allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes for the experience.
When to Visit
Visiting during weekday mornings generally avoids the largest crowds. The site attracts more tourists than local residents, so it can become crowded during peak travel seasons and weekends.
Nearby Attractions
You can combine a visit to the lift with other local landmarks within walking distance:
- Iglesia Los Doce Apóstoles (0.6km)
- Trolleybuses in Valparaíso (0.7km)
- Casa Central de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (0.9km)
