Gediminas' Tower
Gediminas' Tower
This historic castle tower is situated on Gediminas' Hill in Vilnius. Visitors go here to explore the remnants of the upper castle and use the observation deck to view the layout of the city's Old and New Towns. It serves as a primary landmark for understanding the early fortifications of the city.
Getting There
The tower is located within walking distance of the Vilnius city centre. Depending on your starting point in the Old Town, it takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes to reach the base of the hill. From there, you must walk or take the funicular up to the tower.
Time Requirement
Allow roughly 1 to 2 hours for a visit. This includes the ascent up the hill, exploring the tower interior, and spending time at the observation deck.
When to Visit
The site is popular with tourists and can get crowded, particularly during the summer months and on weekends. Visiting during weekday mornings typically avoids the largest crowds. The outdoor climb is most accessible during spring and summer, though the tower remains a point of interest year-round.
