Meštrović Pavilion
Overview
Completed in 1938 and designed by sculptor Ivan Meštrović, this circular building functions as an exhibition space for the Croatian Association of Artists. Having previously served other roles, including a period as a mosque, it now hosts rotating contemporary art shows. Travelers visit to view its cylindrical architecture and explore current art exhibitions.
Getting There
Located in central Zagreb, the pavilion is about 1 kilometre east of Ban Jelačić Square. Walking from the main square takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes, while local trams reach the square in under 5 minutes.
Time to Spend
Allow 45 to 60 minutes. This is sufficient to explore the indoor galleries and walk around the exterior colonnade.
When to Visit
Indoor exhibitions make this a practical stop in any season. Visiting in the late afternoon lets you see the gallery and view the building illuminated after dark. Crowds are generally moderate, with higher attendance during exhibition openings.
