Zagreb Zoo
Overview
Located inside Maksimir Park, Zagreb Zoo is one of Croatia's few zoological gardens. It houses a variety of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians across outdoor enclosures and indoor pavilions. Visitors go to observe wildlife up close in a manageable, green setting that integrates seamlessly with the surrounding parkland.
Getting There
From the city centre, take eastbound tram line 11 or 12 towards Dubrava and alight at the Bukovačka or Park Maksimir stop. The journey takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, followed by a short walk through the main park gate.
Time to Allow
Plan to spend between 2 and 3 hours to cover all animal exhibits comfortably. Visitors with young children may want to allocate half a day to explore at a relaxed pace.
When to Go
Weekday mornings are best for smaller crowds and more active animals. Weekend afternoons and warm spring or summer days can get busy with families and local groups.
