Pura Taman Saraswati

Pura Taman Saraswati

Pura Taman Saraswati, officially Pura Taman Kemuda Saraswati, also known as the Ubud Water Palace, is a Balinese Hindu temple in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. The pura is dedicated to the goddess Sarasvati. Pura Taman Saraswati is notable for its lotus pond.

Pura Taman Saraswati

Pura Taman Saraswati is a Balinese Hindu temple in the center of Ubud, dedicated to Sarasvati, the goddess of knowledge and the arts. Most visitors come for the lotus pond in front of the temple gate, where the flowers frame the traditional stone carvings and split gate (candi bentar) behind them. It's a compact site, best appreciated as a quiet architectural stop rather than a place with much to actively "do."

Getting there

The temple sits just off Ubud's main street, Jalan Raya Ubud, within walking distance of most accommodation in central Ubud. From the town's central area it's typically a 5-10 minute walk. A taxi or scooter from further out in Ubud takes only a few minutes given how central the location is.

How long to stay

Most people spend 15-30 minutes here, mainly walking around the pond and taking photos of the gate. It's easy to fold into a longer walk through central Ubud rather than treating it as a standalone stop.

When to go

Early morning offers softer light on the pond and fewer people. The temple's proximity to Ubud Palace and the main street means it can get busy with day-trippers and photographers, especially around midday and in the late afternoon. Being outdoors and largely uncovered, a visit is more pleasant outside of heavy rain.

Combine with

  • Ubud Palace (0.2km) - immediately nearby, an easy joint stop.
  • Puri Lukisan Museum (0.2km) - just as close, good for Balinese painting.
  • Blanco Renaissance Museum (0.8km) - a short walk further, worth adding if you have more time.
  • Agung Rai Museum of Art (1.4km) - further out, best combined if you're already heading that direction.
