Hakata Bay
하카타만(일본어: 博多湾)은 후쿠오카현 북서부에 위치하고 있는 겐카이나다 상에 면하고 있는 만이다. 이 만에 접해 있는 특정중요항만인 하카타항을 필두로, 와지로 개펄이 주위에 면한다. 그래서 후쿠오카시의 시역 확장에 따른 매립이 반복적으로 계속되고 있다. 그리고 이 주변에 후쿠오카 아일랜드시티라는 인공 섬이 인접해 있다.
Hakata Bay
Hakata Bay is the body of water that forms Fukuoka's northwestern coastline, opening onto the Tsushima Strait. It's less a single sight than a stretch of shoreline that mixes working port, reclaimed city land, and public beach, so what you actually do here depends on which section you visit. Historically it's known as the landing point for the Mongol invasions of 1274 and 1281, sometimes called the Battle of Hakata Bay, though little physical evidence of that history remains visible along the water today.
Getting there
The bay borders central Fukuoka directly, so access depends on which part you're headed to — the port and downtown-facing shore are reachable by bus or a short taxi ride from Hakata or Tenjin, generally under 30 minutes, while the seaside parks further along the coast take closer to 40-60 minutes by bus or train.
Time and crowds
A stop at the waterfront itself takes an hour or two if you're mainly walking the shore or looking at the bay. Mornings and weekdays are quieter; the beaches and parks along the bay draw more visitors on summer weekends.
Combine with
- Hakata Port Tower (3.8km) for a view over the bay and port area
- Marine World Uminonakamichi (3.3km), an aquarium on the peninsula that curves into the bay
- Uminonakamichi Seaside Park (3.5km) and Umi no Nakamichi (3.9km) for beach and open-air park time on the same stretch of coast
These sit close together on the peninsula side of the bay, so they work well as a single half-day or full-day trip out from the city rather than separate outings.
