This museum on Nakanoshima island covers astronomy and energy, with a planetarium as its centrepiece alongside hands-on exhibits about electricity and space. It's a good option for families or anyone wanting an indoor break with interactive displays rather than static galleries, and it sits directly above the underground National Museum of Art, Osaka.
Getting there
From central Osaka (Umeda/Osaka Station), it's roughly a 15-20 minute trip by subway or bus to Nakanoshima. Osaka is served by Kansai International Airport (KIX), from which you'd typically transfer via train into the city centre first.

Plan for around 2 hours, longer if you catch a planetarium show, which typically runs as a separate timed session.
When to go
Weekends and school holidays tend to bring more families and can mean queues for the planetarium, so a weekday morning is a calmer option. As an indoor museum, it also works well as a rainy-day or midsummer heat-avoidance activity.
