Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden
Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden, also called Nongnooch Pattaya Garden, is a 500-acre (2.0 km2) botanical garden and tourist attraction in Chonburi Province, Thailand. Located on Sukhumvit road, it can be reached via bus, taxi or private land transportation. It is also a major scientific center dedicated to cycads, with its own Cycad Gene Bank.
What it is
Nong Nooch is a large botanical garden south of Pattaya, built around themed landscaped sections rather than untouched nature. It's known especially for cycads, an ancient group of plants, with a dedicated Cycad Gene Bank that draws botanical researchers as well as sightseers. Beyond the gardens, most visitors come for the scheduled cultural shows (traditional dance, elephant performances) and topiary displays. It suits travellers who want a half-day of photogenic, well-maintained grounds rather than a wildlife or hiking experience.
Getting there
The garden sits on Sukhumvit Road outside central Pattaya. From the city centre, a taxi or private transfer takes roughly 20-30 minutes depending on traffic and starting point. Public songthaews (shared pickup trucks) running along Sukhumvit also pass the area, though a taxi or arranged transport is more direct for visitors unfamiliar with the routes.
Time to allow
Plan for at least half a day, roughly 3-4 hours, to walk the main garden sections and catch a cultural show. Visitors who want to see everything, including the cactus and orchid areas plus a full show schedule, sometimes make it a fuller day out.
Best time to visit
Mornings are cooler and generally quieter, which makes walking the open garden areas more comfortable given Thailand's heat and humidity. Weekends and Thai public holidays tend to draw larger domestic crowds, particularly around show times, so weekday visits are more relaxed if your schedule allows it.
Combine with
Viharn Sien, a Chinese-style museum and shrine, is about 3.3km away and easy to pair with a garden visit. Ramayana Water Park is roughly 3.6km away and works well if you want to split the day between gardens and a water park. Ko Klet Kaeo (9.7km) and Pattaya Floating Market (11.7km) are further out but still feasible to combine if you have transport for a full day of sightseeing in the area.
