나카지마 공원
Nakajima Park
What it is
Nakajima Park is a large city park south of central Sapporo, built around Shinshoko, a pond with a walking path circling it. Within the grounds you'll also find two streams, patches of lawn and forest, an observatory, a concert hall, a museum, and a historic wooden building that now houses a tea shop. Two shrines stand at the park's south end. It's a place to walk, sit by the water, or cut through green space rather than a single-purpose sight.
Getting there
The park sits close to downtown Sapporo and is reachable by subway (Nakajima-koen Station on the Namboku Line) in well under 15 minutes from the city centre. If arriving by air, you'd first get into Sapporo from Shinchitose Airport (CTS) before making this short in-town trip.
Time to allow
An hour is enough for a loop around the pond and a look at the historic tea house. If you want to linger on the lawns, visit the museum, or catch something at the concert hall, plan closer to two or three hours.
When to go
The park is pleasant across seasons, with autumn foliage around the pond drawing more visitors. Weekends and fine-weather afternoons bring more foot traffic, especially near the water and lawns, so an early visit or weekday will feel quieter.
Combine it with
- Sapporo Concert Hall (0.4km) — right by the park, easy to pair on the same walk.
- Sapporo Gokoku Shrine (0.7km) — a short walk away, one of the two shrines near the park's south end.
- Sapporo Clock Tower (1.7km) and Nihon Kirisuto Kyodan Sapporo Church (1.8km) — both within reach on foot or a quick subway ride if continuing into central Sapporo afterward.
