Tanah Lot
タナロット寺院 は、インドネシア・バリ島中西部のタバナン県の海岸にあるヒンドゥー寺院でバリ六大寺院のひとつ。タナロットは「海の中の土地（Tana）」と「岩（Lot）」の合成語。
What it is
Tanah Lot is a small rock outcrop just off Bali's southwestern coast, topped by a Hindu temple, Pura Tanah Lot. It's one of several sea temples along this coast built to honor spirits of the ocean, and at high tide the rock is cut off from the mainland, so the structure appears to sit on the water. Most visitors come to walk along the shoreline and photograph the temple against the sea, particularly around sunset.
Getting there
From central Bali (Denpasar/Seminyak area), it's roughly 45 minutes to just over an hour by car or taxi, depending on traffic, which can back up badly near sunset. There's no direct public transport; most people arrive by private car, driver, or organized tour. From Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), plan for around an hour.
How much time to allow
Most visitors spend one to two hours on site: enough time to walk the coastal path, view the temple from a few angles, and browse the stalls along the approach.
When to go
Sunset is the busiest period by far, with large crowds gathering along the viewpoints — arrive early if you want a clear spot. Visiting earlier in the day or outside peak tourist season gives a quieter experience, though without the sunset light. Check tide times if you want to walk right up near the rock, since the temple itself sits off-limits to non-worshippers.
What to combine it with
- Pura Taman Ayun (12.9km) — a royal temple complex with landscaped grounds, a different, calmer style of temple visit.
- Pantai Seminyak (11.2km) — a beach and dining area worth pairing with an evening here.
- Pura Maospahit (14km) and the Badung River (13.9km) — both closer to Denpasar, useful if combining with a city-side itinerary.
