Benjakitti Park
What it is
Benjakitti Park is a public green space in Khlong Toei, built around a central lake with elevated walking and cycling paths that loop through wetland vegetation. It's a place for a run, a bike ride, or just walking off the heat, and it sits next to a forest park extension with boardwalks over marshland. Compared to the older, more manicured Lumphini Park, Benjakitti feels more like a constructed wetland, with reeds, grasses, and open water rather than lawns and shade trees.
Getting there
From central Bangkok, the easiest approach is the BTS Skytrain to Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre station, which sits right at one of the park entrances — from the Siam or Sukhumvit areas this takes roughly 15-20 minutes. A taxi from most downtown hotels takes about 15-25 minutes depending on traffic, longer during rush hour.
How much time to allow
A short loop around the lake and boardwalks takes about 45 minutes to an hour on foot. If you're cycling (bikes can sometimes be rented near the entrances) or want to cover the full trail network including the forest park section, allow closer to two hours.
When to go
Early morning or early evening is the most comfortable time to visit, both for temperature and light. Midday sun on the open paths can be intense with little shade. Evenings and weekends draw a lot of local joggers and cyclists, so paths near the main entrances can get busy; weekday mornings are noticeably quieter.
Combine it with
- Lumphini Park (1.8km) — a contrasting, older-style park with more shade, doable as a second stop the same day.
- Erawan Shrine (2.6km) — a short taxi ride away for a change of pace from green space to a busy urban shrine.
- Pratunam Market (3km) — worth pairing if you're heading toward Siam/Pratunam afterward for shopping.
