Piazzale Loreto

로레토 광장

로레토 광장(이탈리아어: Piazzale Loreto)은 이탈리아 밀라노에 있는 광장이다.

Piazzale Loreto

Piazzale Loreto is a large traffic junction on Milan's northeastern edge, where several major roads converge and a Metro station sits underneath. It isn't a park or garden in the usual sense, despite how it may be categorized — it's a busy urban square surrounded by traffic and commercial buildings. Most visitors come because of its history: it was the site where, in April 1945, the bodies of Benito Mussolini and others were publicly displayed after his execution. There's little on-site today that explains this directly, so it helps to know the background before arriving.

Getting there

From the city centre, the square is reached directly by Metro line M1 (Loreto station), a ride of roughly 15-20 minutes from stops like Duomo or Cairoli. It's also a stop for several tram and bus lines.

Time to allow

There isn't much to see beyond the square itself, so 10-15 minutes is enough for most people, unless you're combining it with a walk through the surrounding neighbourhood.

When to go

The square is a major traffic and transit hub at all hours, so expect heavy vehicle noise and crowds during morning and evening rush periods. It's more manageable to pass through mid-morning or early afternoon.

Combine it with

  • Pirelli Tower, about 1.2km away, one of Milan's notable modern high-rises.
  • Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano, around 1.9km away, a natural history museum.
  • Galleria d'arte moderna di Milano, roughly 2km away, for 19th- and 20th-century Italian art.
  • UniCredit Tower, about 2.1km away, another landmark of the city's modern skyline.

These sights are close enough to link into a single walk or short transit hop from Piazzale Loreto.
