西野神社
Nishino Shrine
西野神社（にしのじんじゃ）は、北海道札幌市西区に鎮座する、神社本庁包括下（北海道神社庁札幌支部管内）の神社。札幌市西区の西野・平和・福井の3地区を氏子区域とする（但し西野の一部地域は上手稲神社の氏子区域に含まれる）。旧社格は村社。摂社・末社や兼務社などはない。
Nishino Shrine
Nishino Shrine is a Shinto shrine in a residential district on Sapporo's western edge, founded in 1885 and built in the Shinmei-zukuri style. It enshrines Toyotama-hime, Ugayafukiaezu no Mikoto, and Emperor Ōjin (as Hondawake no Mikoto). It's a working neighbourhood shrine rather than a major tourist site, so visitors come more for a quiet look at local Shinto architecture and grounds than for grand scale.
Getting there
The shrine sits in the Nishino area, away from central Sapporo's subway lines, so the practical options are a local bus connection or a taxi from the city centre. Allow roughly 30-40 minutes each way depending on traffic and connections.
Time to allow
The shrine grounds are compact; 20-30 minutes is enough to look around unless you plan to combine the visit with a walk in the surrounding area.
When to go
Mornings and weekday visits tend to be quiet. Like most Shinto shrines in Japan, it draws larger crowds around New Year for hatsumode; outside that period there's little to avoid.
Combine with
- Mount Goten (1.1km) - the closest hiking option, easily paired with the shrine visit.
- Mount Sankaku (2.2km) - another nearby hill within the same outing.
- Araiyama (2.8km) - a further hiking option in the same direction.
- Hongō Shin Memorial Museum of Sculpture, Sapporo (3km) - a change of pace if you want an indoor stop after the outdoor sites.
