ミッドタウン・タワー
Midtown Tower
Midtown Tower
Midtown Tower is the main office and hotel building of the Tokyo Midtown complex in Akasaka. It was the tallest building in Tokyo until 2014, and while it isn't primarily a sightseeing tower, the appeal for a visitor is the observation-style views available from its upper floors and the Ritz-Carlton, along with the shops, restaurants and Suntory Museum of Art at ground level and the surrounding park.
Getting there
From central Tokyo, the complex is reached via Roppongi Station on the Oedo and Hibiya subway lines, with a direct underground passage into Tokyo Midtown. From areas like Shinjuku or Ginza, expect around 15-25 minutes by subway including the walk from the platform.
How long to stay
Allow around 1-2 hours if you're browsing the shops, gardens and a museum exhibition. If you're mainly there for a meal or drink with a view, budget extra time for that separately.
When to go
Evenings bring the best light for views over the city, and the plaza and Midtown Garden are pleasant for a walk after dark when they're lit up. Weekends and holiday periods draw more foot traffic around the shops and restaurants, so weekday visits tend to be calmer.
Combine with
- Roppongi (0.4km) - the wider entertainment and nightlife district right next door.
- National Art Center, Tokyo (0.5km) - a short walk away, worth pairing with the Suntory Museum of Art if you're interested in exhibitions.
- Akasaka (0.6km) - a nearby district with a different, more local dining scene.
- Tokyo Tower (1.5km) - further off but reachable on foot or by a short taxi/subway ride if you want another skyline landmark the same day.
