Tronchetto
トロンケット は、イタリア共和国北部のヴェネツィアの潟にある人工島であり、ヴェネツィア本島の西端に位置している。『ニューアイランド』を意味する「イーゾラヌオーヴァ 」としても知られる。
What Tronchetto is
Tronchetto is an artificial island at the western edge of the Venetian Lagoon, built in the 20th century mainly as a car park and logistics point for Venice. It has none of the historic architecture you'd find elsewhere in the city — most travellers pass through it rather than visit it as a destination in its own right, since it functions as a transport hub where cars, buses and tourist coaches stop before people continue into Venice by boat, tram or on foot.
Getting there
Tronchetto sits at the very edge of Venice's road network, reachable directly by car or coach from the mainland via the Ponte della Libertà, without crossing any canals. From the historic city centre, it's roughly a 20–30 minute trip by vaporetto (waterbus) or the People Mover monorail, which connects Tronchetto to Piazzale Roma in a few minutes.
Time to allow
Unless you're parking a car or catching a cruise transfer, there's little reason to linger — most people spend well under an hour here, just enough to move between transport connections.
When to go
Traffic and queues for parking or the People Mover can build up around peak arrival times, particularly in high season and when cruise ships are in port. If you're driving in, arriving earlier in the day tends to mean less congestion.
Combine it with
Tronchetto isn't a sightseeing stop, so treat it as a gateway rather than a destination. From here, the People Mover or vaporetto puts you within reach of the city centre, with Ponte della Costituzione about 1.2km away as a first landmark, and Sacca Fisola (1.7km), Ca' Rezzonico (1.7km) and Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari (1.8km) all within easy onward travel once you're properly into Venice.
