寺社・宗教施設

サン・マルコ寺院

サン・マルコ大聖堂は、ヴェネツィア総大主教座聖堂であり、福音書記者聖マルコの遺骸が納められているとされています。1807年に、それまでの司教座聖堂であったサン・ピエトロ・ディ・カステッロに代わって総大主教座となりました。ビザンティン様式の金色のモザイクに覆われた内外装が特徴で、教会建築や宗教美術に興味がある方には見応えのある場所です。

博物館・美術館

イタリア、フィレンツェにある美術館

ドゥカーレ宮殿は、ヴェネツィア共和国時代にドージェ(総督)の邸宅であり、政庁と牢獄も併設された建物です。ヴェネツィアン・ゴシック様式で810年に最初に建てられ、1340年に再建された後、その後何世紀にもわたり増築と改修が行われました。1923年から美術館として公開されており、ヴェネツィア市立博物館財団が管理する11の博物館の一つです。

サン・マルコ広場

サン・マルコ広場は、サン・マルコ大聖堂や鐘楼、ドゥカーレ宮殿など、ヴェネツィアを代表する建築物がすべて面するヴェネツィアの中心広場である。広場そのものが目的地というより、ヴェネツィアを象徴する建物が集まる出発点に近く、広場を囲む回廊にはカフェや店が立ち並んでいる。

ヴェネツィアの潟

ヴェネツィアの潟(ラグーナ)は、アドリア海とつながる浅い湾で、ヴェネツィアの市街地そのものがこの潟に浮かぶ数々の島の上に築かれています。つまり、サン・マルコ広場やリアルト橋を歩くこと自体が、すでに潟のただ中を歩く体験なのです。

展望・ランドマーク

リアルト橋

リアルト橋は、ヴェネツィアの大運河に架かる4本の橋の中で最も古く、サン・マルコ地区とサン・ポーロ地区を結んでいます。1173年に浮橋として最初に架けられて以来、何度も再建されており、現在の石造りの橋は、運河を行き交う船やゴンドラと、橋の上を渡る人々を一緒に眺められる場所として旅行者に親しまれています。

ムラーノ

ムラノ島は、ヴェネツィアの本島から北へ約1.5kmの潟に浮かぶ、橋でつながった小さな島々からなる地区です。かつては独立した自治体でしたが、現在はヴェネツィア市の一部となっています。古くからのガラス工芸で知られ、島内には工房や窯が残り、職人が実際にガラスを吹いて作る様子を見学できる場所もあります。

ため息橋

ため息橋は、ドゥカーレ宮殿とその向かいにある新牢獄(プリジオーニ・ヌオーヴェ)の間、リオ・ディ・パラッツォ運河に架かる小さな石橋である。裁判を受けた囚人が宮殿から牢獄へ移送される際にこの橋を渡ったと伝えられており、橋そのものよりも、橋を囲む狭い運河と両側の建物が作り出す風景が見どころとなっている。

ブラーノ

ブラーノ島は、ヴェネツィアの潟の北側に位置する小さな島で、色とりどりに塗られた漁師の家々と伝統的なレース編みで知られています。もともとは漁業を営む村でしたが、現在は観光が主な経済活動となっています。家ごとに異なる色で塗られた通りを歩いて写真を撮ったり、レース工房や小さな店を巡ったりするのが、この島を訪れる主な楽しみです。

地下鉄・鉄道: No metro, and no cars on the main islands.
バス・路面電車: The vaporetto is effectively the city bus, running along the Grand Canal and out to islands like Murano and Burano. You will also walk a lot — wheeled luggage struggles on the bridge steps.
交通カード・支払い: Vaporetto (water bus) tickets. A time-based pass pays off if you ride several times.
空港から市内へ: From Marco Polo, take the Alilaguna water bus or a bus plus a walk. A water taxi is easier with heavy luggage but costly.
レンタカー: Cars cannot enter the main island at all; you park on the mainland at Piazzale Roma or Mestre.
