フレグレイ平野

カンピ・フレグレイは、ナポリ西部に広がる巨大な火山カルデラで、ナポリ市街地の一部がその上に築かれているほど中心部に近い場所にあります。火山活動によってできた地形のため、あちこちに噴気孔や地熱活動の痕跡が見られ、メディアでは「スーパー火山」として紹介されることもあります。

文化・劇場

サン・カルロ劇場

ナポリ王宮の隣に建つサン・カルロ劇場は1737年に開場したオペラ劇場で、現在まで途切れることなく上演を続ける劇場としては世界最古とされています。ミラノのスカラ座やヴェネツィアのフェニーチェ劇場よりも早く建てられており、イタリア・オペラの歴史を肌で感じられる場所です。

博物館・美術館

ナポリ国立考古学博物館

ナポリ国立考古学博物館は、ギリシャ・ローマ・ルネサンス期の遺物を所蔵する、イタリアを代表する考古学博物館です。特に近郊のポンペイ、スタビア、エルコラーノの遺跡から発掘されたローマ時代の遺物が中心で、モザイク画や彫像のコレクションで知られています。1816年から1861年までは「ブルボン王立博物館」という名称で呼ばれていました。

カポディモンテ美術館

カポディモンテ美術館は、18世紀にブルボン王家が建てたカポディモンテ王宮内にある国立美術館です。ファルネーゼ家およびナポリ王国の王室コレクションを基盤に発展し、ナポリ派の絵画と装飾美術を最も豊富に所蔵する美術館とされています。

城・宮殿

ヌオヴォ城

カステル・ヌオーヴォは、ナポリ市庁舎前広場に面した中世の城で、「マスキオ・アンジョイーノ」の名でもよく知られています。1279年に最初に建てられ、1815年までナポリ、アラゴン、スペインの各王家の居城として使われました。5基の円塔の間に据えられた白大理石の凱旋門が特徴で、港湾都市ナポリの長い統治の歴史を目にすることができる場所です。

寺社・宗教施設

ナポリ大聖堂

ナポリ大聖堂は聖母被昇天に捧げられたローマ・カトリック教会で、ナポリ大司教区の中心聖堂であり、大司教座が置かれています。ナポリの守護聖人サン・ジェンナーロを祀る礼拝堂として知られ、地元では「ドゥオーモ」と呼ばれています。時代の異なる建築様式が重なり合う内部や礼拝堂を巡ることで、ナポリの信仰の中心地を肌で感じることができます。

博物館・美術館

王宮

ナポリ王宮は、ナポリ旧市街のプレビシート広場に面した宮殿で、かつてブルボン家をはじめとするナポリ統治者たちの居城として使われました。正面玄関はプレビシート広場側にありますが、敷地はトリエステ・エ・トレント広場、ムニチーピオ広場、アクトン通りの方向にも複数の出入口を持ち、庭園やサン・カルロ劇場まで含む広大な複合施設となっています。

自然

ソルファタラ火口

ソルファターラは、ナポリ近郊のポッツオーリにある浅い火山口で、カンピ・フレグレイ(フレグレイ平野)火山地帯の一部です。約4000年前に形成され、記録に残る最後の噴火は1198年で、地下水とマグマが接触して起きた水蒸気爆発性の噴火だったと考えられています。

街なかの移動

地下鉄・鉄道: Lines 1 and 2. Several Line 1 stations are decorated as art installations and are worth seeing in themselves. On these hills the funiculars are part of the transit system.
バス・路面電車: Bus frequency is uneven. For Pompeii and Sorrento, the Circumvesuviana regional railway is the main route.
交通カード・支払い: ANM tickets, shared across the metro, buses and funiculars.
空港から市内へ: Capodichino is close to the city, with the Alibus linking the central station and the port.
レンタカー: Driving in Naples is demanding if you are not used to the traffic. The Amalfi Coast road is narrow and jams in peak season, so trains, ferries or a car with a driver are the practical alternatives.
