Overview

The El-Mursi Abul Abbas Mosque is a 13th-century religious site and Sufi shrine in Alexandria's Anfushi district. Dedicated to the mystic Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi, the complex houses his tomb and remains an active center of worship. Travelers visit to see its Islamic architecture and historic shrine.

Getting There

From central Alexandria, the site is about 3 kilometers west along the coastline. A taxi or rideshare takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes, depending on traffic along the Corniche.

Allow 30 to 45 minutes to view the courtyard, main prayer hall, and tomb area.

When to Visit

Weekday mornings offer a quieter visit. The complex becomes crowded during Friday midday prayers and Islamic festivals. Non-worshipping visitors should plan around prayer times, dress modestly with shoulders and knees covered, and remove their shoes before entering.
