What It Is

Our Lord in the Attic Museum is a preserved 17th-century canal house in Amsterdam's old town. Its upper floors contain a concealed Catholic church built for secret worship during a period when Catholic Mass was banned. Open as a museum since 1888, the building features historical living quarters, steep staircases, and an intact multi-level attic chapel.

Getting There

Located in the city center, the site is a 5- to 10-minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal Station or Dam Square. You can also take the metro to Nieuwmarkt and walk a short distance west.

Allow roughly 1 to 1.5 hours to tour the domestic rooms, hallways, and attic church.

When to Go

The original domestic layout has steep stairs and narrow corridors that get crowded during peak hours. Arrive early in the day or later in the afternoon to avoid bottlenecks and tour groups.
