Baphuon

Located within the ancient city of Angkor Thom, Baphuon is an 11th-century temple mountain dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Built during the reign of Udayadityavarman II, the structure consists of three tiers leading to a central sanctuary. Visitors go here to observe the scale of the sandstone architecture and the historical efforts to reconstruct the temple after its collapse.

Getting There

The temple is situated in the Angkor Archaeological Park, northwest of the Bayon. From Siem Reap city centre, most travellers reach the site via tuk-tuk or hired vehicle. The journey typically takes 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic and the specific starting point in town.

Visit Duration

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to explore the tiers and walk around the perimeter of the temple grounds.

Timing and Crowds

Early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday heat. The site can become crowded during the peak tourist season, particularly when large tour groups arrive from the central area of Angkor Thom.
