Kitchener's Island
Kitchener's Island
Located in the Nile at Aswan, this small island serves as a botanical garden. Visitors go here to walk through a landscaped environment featuring a collection of exotic trees and flowers.
Getting There
The island is accessible only by boat from the Aswan riverfront. From the city centre, you will need to hire a local boat or ferry. The trip across the water typically takes a few minutes depending on the departure point.
Duration of Visit
Allow approximately one to two hours to walk the paths of the garden and view the plant collections.
When to Visit
The island is most comfortable during the cooler winter months. Early morning or late afternoon visits are recommended to avoid the midday heat. The site can become crowded during peak tourist seasons when large groups arrive by boat.
Combining with Other Sites
Because of its location on the Nile, the garden is easily combined with other river-based and nearby attractions:
- Saluga and Ghazal islands: Located in the immediate vicinity (0km), these can be visited via the same boat trip.
- Elephantine Island: Situated 0.5km away.
- Aswan Museum and Temple of Khnum: Both are located approximately 1km from the island's landing area.
