Qubbet el-Hawa

Qubbet el-Hawa is an ancient Egyptian necropolis located on the west bank of the Nile in Aswan. The site contains the rock-cut tombs of nobles and priests from the Old and Middle Kingdoms, with some burials continuing into the Roman period. Visitors go here to explore these historical tombs and view the landscape from the elevated cliffs.

Getting There

To reach the site from Aswan city centre, you must cross to the west bank of the Nile. This is typically done via a local ferry or private motorboat. From the west bank landing, a short taxi or donkey cart ride is required to reach the base of the hills. The total travel time is approximately 30 to 45 minutes depending on boat availability.

Duration of Visit

Allow roughly 2 to 3 hours to explore the main tombs and walk up to the higher vantage points of the necropolis.

When to Visit

Early morning is recommended to avoid the midday heat, as the site is exposed with little shade. The cooler winter months are the most suitable season for visiting. The site is generally less crowded than the major temple complexes in the city.
