Temple of Heaven

This complex served as the Confucian altar where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties performed annual rites to pray for successful harvests. The site consists of several key structures, including the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, set within a large park. Visitors go here to see the traditional imperial architecture and observe the local residents who use the surrounding gardens for exercise and socializing.

Getting There

The site is located in the southern part of the city center. It is accessible via the Beijing Subway, typically taking 30 to 45 minutes from the central districts depending on your starting point.

Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours to walk through the main altar areas and the surrounding park grounds.

When to Visit

Early morning is a common time to visit, as many locals gather in the park for Tai Chi and other activities. The site gets crowded, particularly during national holidays and weekends. Spring and autumn offer the most moderate weather for walking the extensive grounds.
