Overview

Nejmeh Square sits at the core of downtown Beirut. Known for its radial street layout and Art Deco architecture, the plaza is home to the Lebanese Parliament building, two cathedrals, and an underground museum. Travelers visit to examine the historical facades, see the central clock tower, and sit at the surrounding cafés and restaurants.

Getting There

Located directly in central Beirut, the plaza is accessible on foot within 5 to 15 minutes from most downtown locations. From districts such as Hamra or Achrafieh, a short taxi ride takes roughly 10 to 20 minutes depending on local traffic.

Time to Allow

Allow 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. This provides sufficient time to walk around the perimeter, view the architecture, and stop for refreshments at an outdoor terrace.

When to Visit

Late afternoon and early evening are ideal times to visit, as outdoor seating fills and temperatures cool down. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable weather for walking. Expect larger crowds on weekend evenings. Because the area contains government offices, security checkpoints may occasionally restrict access along certain entry roads.
