Overview

Bjorøy is an island covering roughly 4.1 km² off the coast of Bergen. Positioned among neighboring islands, it offers views typical of western Norway's coastal landscape, characterized by rocky shores and residential hamlets. Visitors go for quiet walking routes and open coastal perspectives away from the city center.

Getting There

The island is connected to the mainland by an undersea road tunnel. Driving from central Bergen takes about 25 to 35 minutes depending on traffic. Local buses also serve the route from the city center, though departures are less frequent on weekends.

Plan to spend 1 to 2 hours on the island, or up to 3 hours if you take a longer coastal walk around the local roads.

When to Visit

The best period to visit is from May to September, when daylight hours are long and walking conditions are generally drier. Coastal rain and strong winds are frequent during late autumn and winter. The island is primarily residential and does not experience tourist crowds.
