Bryggen

Bryggen consists of a row of commercial wooden buildings from the Hanseatic era located along the Vågen harbor. Visitors go here to walk through the narrow alleys between the warehouses and view the historic architecture of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Getting There

The site is located in the heart of Bergen. From the city centre, it is accessible via a short walk of approximately 5 to 10 minutes, depending on your starting point.

Time Allocation

Allow 1 to 2 hours to walk through the alleys, explore the small shops, and view the harbor front.

When to Visit

The area is open to pedestrians at all times. It gets crowded during the peak summer tourist season and during cruise ship arrivals. Visiting in the early morning or late evening typically avoids the largest crowds.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its central location, you can combine a visit here with several other historical sites within walking distance:

  • Bryggens Museum (0.1km)
  • St Mary's Church (0.2km)
  • Hanseatic Museum and Schøtstuene (0.2km)
  • Rosenkrantztårnet (0.4km)
