Located within the Bergenhus Fortress at the entrance to the harbor, this stone tower is one of Norway's oldest and best-preserved fortifications. Travelers visit this site to explore its military architecture and view the harbor from its elevated position.

Getting There

The tower is situated on the edge of the city centre. From the central harbor area, it is a short walk of approximately 5 to 10 minutes. The path is flat and pedestrian-friendly.

Allow roughly 1 to 2 hours to explore the interior of the tower and walk around the immediate perimeter of the fortification.

When to Visit

The site is accessible throughout the year, though weather conditions in Bergen can affect the outdoor experience. It can get crowded during the peak summer tourist season. Visiting during the mornings or late afternoons, the crowds are generally smaller.
