Arrival and Transport

From Malta International Airport (MLA): The most direct way to reach Birgu is via taxi or ride-sharing apps. Public buses are available, though they typically require a transfer or a walk from the nearby Three Cities ferry terminals.

Getting Around: Once inside Birgu, the only practical mode of transport is walking. The streets are too narrow for cars. To travel between Birgu and Valletta, use the traditional ferry service, which is the most efficient way to cross the Grand Harbour.

Common First-Timer Mistakes

• Overestimating the need for a car: Driving into the Three Cities is difficult due to traffic and limited parking. Use the ferry and walk.
• Skipping the underground sites: Many visitors stay on the surface, but the underground burial chambers are central to the town's history.
• Confusing Birgu with the other 'Three Cities': Birgu is the most tourist-friendly, but ensure you are in Vittoriosa and not Senglea or Cospicua if you are looking for the main cathedral.
