Mariam Al-Batool Mosque
Overview
The Mariam Al-Batool Mosque is an Islamic place of worship built with Libyan support in the late 1970s and opened in the early 1980s. As the main spiritual hub for the local Muslim community, the complex offers travellers a clear view of contemporary Islamic culture and religious life in Malta.
Getting There
From the centre of Birgu, the mosque is reachable by local bus or taxi in approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Public transit stops are located a short walking distance from the gates.
Visit Duration
Set aside roughly 30 to 45 minutes for the visit. This allows enough time to view the exterior architecture, walk the grounds, and quietly observe the prayer hall.
When to Visit
Weekday mornings and early afternoons are generally quiet. The site becomes busy during Friday midday congregational prayers when the local community gathers. Modest dress covering shoulders and knees is required on the premises.
