Domvs Romana
About the Site
Domvs Romana preserves the remains of an aristocratic Roman townhouse built in the 1st century BC on the site of ancient Melite, located on the border of Mdina and Rabat. Visitors can examine excavated residential foundations, Roman mosaic floors, and everyday artifacts. The site also features remnants of an 11th-century Muslim cemetery established over the Roman ruins, illustrating two distinct historical periods in a single location.
Getting There
From central areas such as Birkirkara, the site is reachable by public bus or car. Buses heading toward Rabat or Mdina stop within walking distance, taking approximately 25 to 35 minutes. Driving or taking a taxi takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes.
