About South Bank

South Bank is a cultural precinct situated on the southern side of the Brisbane River. It serves as a hub for pedestrians, offering a network of walking paths, public relaxation areas, and various performance and cultural venues. Travelers visit this area to access the city's museums, galleries, and riverfront promenades.

Getting There

The area is located directly across the river from the Brisbane central business district. It is accessible via a short walk across the Victoria Bridge or by using the free CityHopper ferry service. From the city centre, the transit time is typically under 15 minutes.

Duration of Visit

Depending on whether you are visiting a specific gallery or simply walking the riverfront, allow between 3 to 6 hours. A full day is recommended if you plan to visit multiple museums and the parklands.

When to Visit

The precinct is open to the public throughout the day. Late afternoons are common for walking and dining. During the summer months, the area can become crowded, particularly around the man-made beaches and public pools. To avoid the largest crowds, visit on weekday mornings.
