The Old Windmill

Located in Observatory Park in Spring Hill, this stone tower was built in the 1820s and is the oldest surviving building in Queensland. Visitors go here to see a remnant of the city's early colonial architecture and to access an elevated vantage point for views of the Brisbane city skyline.

Getting There

The tower is situated within walking distance of the Brisbane city centre. From the central business district, it is a short walk of approximately 10 to 15 minutes heading toward the Spring Hill area.

Visit Duration

Because the site is a standalone landmark within a public park, most visitors spend between 30 and 60 minutes exploring the exterior and the surrounding grounds.

When to Visit

The site is accessible throughout the year. Visiting during the late afternoon provides softer light for photography and views of the city as it transitions into the evening. As it is located in a public park, it generally remains quiet, though it may see more foot traffic during weekends.
