Halle Gate Museum

The Halle Gate is a 14th-century city gate and the only remaining part of the walls that once surrounded Brussels. It was restored in the 19th century and currently functions as a museum dedicated to the city's medieval history. Visitors go here to see the surviving fortifications and explore exhibits on the urban development of medieval Brussels.

Getting There

The museum is located south of the city centre. It is accessible via public transport, including tram and bus lines, or by a short taxi ride. From the central area, the journey typically takes 10 to 15 minutes depending on the mode of transport.

Visit Duration

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to walk through the gate structure and view the museum collections.

When to Visit

The site is generally less crowded than the main tourist hubs in the Grand Place area. Visiting during weekday mornings typically avoids the largest groups of visitors.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its location, this site can be combined with other points of interest in the southern part of the city:

  • South Tower (0.8km)
  • Church of Our Lady of the Chapel (1km)
  • Jewish Museum of Belgium (1km)
  • Egmont Palace (1.1km)
