Gijang Japanese Castle

This site is a Japanese-style fortress located in Gijang-gun, Busan. It was constructed by Japanese forces during the Japanese invasions of Korea. Visitors go here to walk through the remaining fortifications and reflect on the military history of the region.

Getting There

The castle is located in the eastern part of the city, away from the central business districts. From Busan city centre, you can reach the site via a combination of subway and bus or by taxi. The journey typically takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes depending on traffic and the starting point.

Visit Duration

Allow roughly 1 to 2 hours to explore the grounds and walk along the traces of the old fortress walls.

When to Visit

The site is an outdoor historical area, making it most accessible during the spring and autumn months when temperatures are moderate. Morning visits are recommended to avoid the midday heat. It generally does not experience the same level of crowding as Busan's primary beach districts.
