Āraiši Lake Dwelling
This site is a reconstructed ancient Latgalian lake dwelling located on a small lake. It consists of a village of wooden huts built on platforms over the water, connected by a wooden bridge. Visitors go here to see a physical reconstructions of how prehistoric people lived in this region centuries ago.
Getting There
The site is located outside the center of Cēsis. It is approximately 7km from the town center. The trip takes about 10 to 15 minutes by car or taxi.
Duration of Visit
Allow roughly 1 to 2 hours to walk across the bridge, explore the interior of the reconstructed dwellings, and walk around the perimeter of the lake.
When to Visit
The site is best visited during the warmer months when the lake is thawed and the wooden structures are fully accessible. Morning or late afternoon visits typically avoid the peak midday heat. During the summer tourist season, the bridge and huts can become crowded.
