Cēsis Castle

This medieval fortress is one of the best-preserved castles in Latvia. Founded by the Livonian Brothers of the Sword and later expanded by the Teutonic Order, the site retains much of its original architectural form. Visitors go here to explore the fortifications, courtyards, and the historical remnants of the monastic order's presence in the region.

Getting There

The castle is located within the town of Cēsis. From the city centre, it is a short walk of a few minutes, as the site is centrally positioned and easily accessible on foot.

Duration of Visit

Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours to walk through the grounds, climb the towers, and view the interior exhibits.

When to Visit

The site is accessible throughout the year, though the outdoor courtyards and walls are most accessible during the summer and autumn. To avoid larger groups, arrive early in the morning. The area can become crowded during peak summer tourism months.
