Castles & palaces
Cēsis Castle
One of Latvia's finest medieval castles, remarkably well preserved and still true to its original form. Founded by the Livonian Brothers of the Sword, it later flourished under the Teutonic Order, and traces of that history remain visible throughout.

Church of Saint John the Baptist in Cēsis
This Lutheran church is considered the grandest medieval basilica in Latvia outside Riga. Its striking red-brick Gothic architecture also makes it a great photo spot.

Ungurs
Lake Ungurs, located within Gauja National Park, is a great place near Cēsis for swimming and boating. With well-maintained bike paths and fishing spots, it's also popular with families.
