About Muyuq Marka

Muyuq Marka is an Inca-era archaeological site located within the larger Sacsayhuamán fortress complex above Cusco. The site is characterized by the remaining base of a circular tower. Visitors go here to observe the intersection of Inca religious architecture and military fortress construction in one location.

Getting There

The site is located on the outskirts of Cusco. From the city centre, you can reach it via taxi or by hiking up the trails leading toward the fortress. The journey typically takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on the mode of transport and traffic conditions.

Visit Duration

Because the site consists primarily of the tower base and surrounding ruins, most visitors spend between 30 and 60 minutes exploring the immediate area.

When to Visit

The site is outdoors and exposed to the elements. It is advisable to visit during the dry season to avoid rain. Like other major ruins in Cusco, this area can get crowded during peak tourist hours and during major festivals.
