The Japanese Bridge is a covered footbridge in the old town of Hội An, notable for the small temple built onto its northern side. It dates back to the late 16th century, when it was constructed by Japanese merchants trading in the port, and has been repaired and rebuilt several times since. Travellers visit for the structure itself — the roofed wooden crossing, carved details, and the temple — as one of the recognizable landmarks of Hội An's old town rather than for any single dramatic feature.
Getting there
The bridge sits inside Hội An's pedestrian-only old town, so it's reached on foot once you're in the historic centre. If you're coming from central Da Nang city, it's roughly a 45-minute to 1-hour drive or taxi ride south to Hội An, followed by a short walk through the old town streets to the bridge itself.
Time to allow
Seeing the bridge and its temple typically takes about 15-20 minutes, though many visitors linger longer to take photos from the surrounding riverside streets.
When to go
The bridge is one of the most photographed spots in Hội An and draws heavy foot traffic, especially in the late morning and afternoon. Early morning tends to be quieter. Evenings bring lantern lighting along the river, which changes the atmosphere but also attracts more visitors.

The bridge sits within easy walking distance of several small museums in the old town: the Museum of Sa Huynh Culture (0.1km), Hoi An Museum (0.4km), and the Museum of Trade Ceramics (0.4km) can all be folded into the same walk. The Precious Heritage Art Gallery Museum (0.9km) is a bit further but still walkable if you have extra time.
