Hrazdan River

The Hrazdan River is the second-longest river in Armenia. It originates at Lake Sevan, passes through the capital city of Yerevan, and eventually flows into the Aras River. Travelers visit this site primarily to explore the river gorge located west of Yerevan, where the terrain allows for scenic views of the water and the surrounding rock formations.

Getting There

The river flows directly through Yerevan, making parts of it accessible via local transport. To reach the gorge area west of the city centre, you can use a taxi or a rental car. The travel time varies depending on the specific viewpoint or trail chosen, but generally takes between 20 to 40 minutes from the central district.

Duration of Visit

Depending on whether you are simply viewing the river from a bridge or hiking along the gorge trails, allow between 2 to 4 hours to explore the area.

When to Visit

The best seasons for visiting are spring and autumn when temperatures are moderate for walking. Avoid the peak heat of mid-summer. The gorge areas are generally less crowded than the city centre, though popular viewpoints may see more visitors during weekends.

Nearby Attractions

You can combine a visit to the river with other nearby natural sites and landmarks:

  • Azat River (4.5km)
  • Karasu Deresi (5.2km)
  • Chorselyav (19.3km)
  • Ilkasar (20.1km)
