El-Jamai Palace

Located near Bab Guissa in Fez el-Bali, this late 19th-century mansion serves as an example of traditional Moroccan residential architecture. Originally built as a private residence and later converted into a luxury hotel, the site allows visitors to observe ornate carvings, tilework, and the layout of a historic urban palace.

Getting There

The palace is situated within the medina of Fez. From the city centre, it is accessible via the pedestrian walkways of the old city. Depending on your starting point within the medina, the walk typically takes between 15 and 30 minutes. Visitors arriving from outside the city usually fly into Fes-Saïss Airport (FEZ) and take a taxi to the medina gates.

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to walk through the grounds and examine the architectural details of the interior and courtyards.

When to Visit

The palace is best visited during the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat. Like many sites in the medina, it can become crowded during peak tourist seasons. It is advisable to visit during the shoulder seasons of spring or autumn for more temperate weather.
