Marmashen monastery
Marmashen Monastery
Located in the village of Marmashen, this 10th-century religious complex consists of five church buildings. Visitors go here to study medieval Armenian architecture, as the site's design shares similarities with the Kzkonk Monastery.
Getting There
The monastery is situated outside the center of Gyumri. The most common way to reach the site is by taxi or rental car. The drive from the city center typically takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
Visit Duration
Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to walk through the complex and examine the various church structures and their architectural details.
When to Visit
The site is outdoors, making it most accessible during the spring and autumn months. To avoid the midday sun, morning or late afternoon visits are recommended. It generally does not get crowded, providing a quiet environment for exploration.
