About the Fortress

Sev Berd is a 19th-century Imperial Russian military fortress on the western outskirts of Gyumri. Built following the Russo-Turkish War, the circular fortification served as a defensive border outpost. Travellers visit to examine its stone masonry, explore the historic grounds, and view the city from the hilltop.

Getting There

The site sits roughly 2.5 kilometres southwest of central Gyumri. A taxi from the centre takes 5 to 10 minutes, while walking takes approximately 35 minutes.

Plan for 45 to 60 minutes to walk around the structure and view the surrounding landscape.

When to Visit

Late afternoon provides cooler temperatures and better lighting. Late spring through early autumn offers comfortable weather, whereas winters are cold and windy. The site is rarely crowded.
