About Sveifluháls

Sveifluháls is a 397-meter tuff ridge in southwest Iceland, situated within the Reykjanes nature reserve and part of the Krýsuvík volcanic system. Hikers visit the area to trek across volcanic terrain and view the surrounding landscape from the ridge.

Getting There

From Hafnarfjörður city centre, drive south along Route 42 for about 25 to 30 minutes. From Keflavík International Airport (KEF), the drive takes roughly 40 minutes. Because public transport does not serve the trailheads, driving is necessary.

Time to Allow

Plan for 2 to 4 hours to complete a standard hike along the ridge and navigate the uneven volcanic ground.

When to Visit

Late spring through early autumn provides the most reliable trail conditions and longer daylight. Avoid the ridge in heavy fog or severe wind, as the high ground is fully exposed. The area does not generally get crowded.
