Hiroshima Gokoku Shrine
Overview
Hiroshima Gokoku Shrine is a Shinto shrine situated within the grounds of Hiroshima Castle. Originally established to honor fallen soldiers, the current complex is a post-war reconstruction. Travellers stop here to observe an active place of worship and rest in a quiet setting while touring the surrounding park.
Getting There
From central Hiroshima, the grounds are a 10 to 15-minute walk north from the Kamiyacho district. Alternatively, take the local streetcar to Kamiya-cho-higashi or Kencho-mae station, followed by an easy 10-minute walk.
