About Šančiai
Šančiai is a district located on the right bank of the Nemunas River in Kaunas. The area is characterized by two distinct elevations: a lowland section along the riverbank and a hilltop area. Visitors go here primarily for the contrasting perspectives of the city, as the geography allows for both riverside walks and elevated views of the surrounding landscape.
Getting There
The district is accessible from the Kaunas city centre via public transport or by crossing the river bridges. Depending on the mode of transport and traffic, the journey typically takes 10 to 20 minutes.
Duration of Visit
Depending on whether you intend to explore both the lowland and hilltop sections, allow 1 to 3 hours to walk through the district and observe the views.
When to Visit
The area is suitable for visiting throughout the year. Daytime is recommended for visibility of the river and city vistas. It does not typically experience the same level of tourist crowding as the central Old Town.
